The EU-taken actions in recent days move away from confronting fake news and deprive the news of objectivity, Prensa Latina News Agency President Luis Enrique González stressed.
According to his statement, boycott of Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik news agencies violates the individual rights of professionals who work in these media.
Likewise, Mr. González he continued, they deprive followers of having access to alternative news and visions to those disseminated by Western news monopolies, at a time when the Ukraine conflict focuses the attention of the entire world.
Russia began a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, following the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics called for help in the face of Kyiv’s aggression, and in a context of increasing the warmongering and expansionist stances of NATO member nations.
Shortly after, the European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU was developing tools aimed at suppressing the RT and Sputnik broadcastings.
Plus, Twitter began to tag the personal accounts of some of the RT and Sputnik professionals as “Russia-affiliated media outlets”.
In different parts of the world, a great number of people have recently expressed their rejection of the EU censorship on RT and Sputnik.
Venezuela´s Communication Minister Freddy Ñáñez strongly believed it is a sign of arrogance but of desperation too.
The TeleSur TV Channel President Patricia Villegas stressed the respect and admiration for all RT workers, and stated that the EU’s decision attempts to silence voices in the name of democracy. mh/pll/leg/lmg/mar
