Washington, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) A group of specialists reiterated their deep concern about cannabis use in pregnant women, who may give birth to underweight children, among other consequences, a specialized source revealed on Friday.

According to the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism magazine, cannabis consumption is on the rise and may be linked to negative health outcomes for newborns.

Women consuming cannabis, both tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol, during their pregnancy could be putting their child at risk of low birth weight and behavioral problems.

Cannabis consumption, scientists added, can also increase a child’s risk of suffering from obesity and hyperglycemia.

“We found that such a practice during pregnancy was closely related to the increased fat mass and fasting glucose levels in children aging 5, scientists stated.
