Helsinki, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) The governments of Finland and Estonia announced today they plan to jointly lease a floating liquefied natural gas terminal to guarantee supply to both nations.

Finnish economy minister Mika Lintila and his Estonian counterpart Taavi Aas said a mobile offshore gas terminal would be a quick fix to secure supply, press from both Baltic countries reported on Thursday.

Due to the conflict in Ukraine, we must prepare for possible gas import disruptions, Lintila said, adding that a floating terminal is an efficient way to secure supply, including in industry.

According to the plan, the terminal can be located on any of the shores of the Gulf of Finland, depending on the countries’ gas needs.

For his part, Aas pointed out that his country estimates that the annual rental cost of the terminal will be around 10 million euros (about 11 million dollars) for Estonia, in the best of cases, although he acknowledged that Finland will demand more fuel.
