US-based solidarity groups to send donations to Cuba

Proyecto-300x252
Washington, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) Cubans and friends of the Caribbean island in the United States are currently preparing a shipment of 7,500 pounds of food and hygiene products to be sent to Havana.

Through the solidarity project called El Pan (The Bread), these activists have collected powdered milk, canned food and women’s hygiene products that will arrive in Cuba April 11, and will be received by the Cuban Council of Churches.

The organizations united in this initiative are the CubanaKoa Foundation, the Saving Lives Campaign, as well as the foundation founded by Cuban pianist Nachito and his wife, Aurora Herrera, along with Matter, a non-profit medical group based in Minnesota.

In a communiqué to which Prensa Latina had access, Felix Sharpe, coordinator of the project, expressed his pride that so many people in the United States are united around such a human purpose, as is to help Cuba. He expressed hope that the ties between the two countries will be resumed someday.

This donations are a response to the crisis generated in Cuba by Covid-19 and the tightening of the economic blockade under the administration of President Donald Trump (2017-2021), who imposed more than 240 restrictive measures, included limiting remittances.

The Republican reversed the achievements made by the Barack Obama administration (2009-2017) to normalize relations between Washington and Havana, a strategy that President Joe Biden has maintained, despite the promises he made during his presidential campaign.
