CSTO urges Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to reach an agreement

Moscow, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) said it was satisfied with the start of negotiations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict to avoid further loss of life.

The CSTO secretariat stressed that it was confident that mutually acceptable ways would be found to resolve this complicated border issue, reduce tensions and prevent the conflict from escalating.

“We believe that the use of force is unacceptable, and only political and diplomatic methods should be used to resolve contradictions,” the agency stressed.

The CSTO Secretariat is closely monitoring the situation and hopes that the truce that has been established will be long-lasting and sustainable.

“The conflict must be resolved exclusively at the negotiation table in a peaceful manner and the loss of life cannot be allowed any longer,” it stated.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is an organization with a political-military vocation that emerged on May 15th, 1992, and brings together several countries in Europe and Central Asia, once members of the former Soviet Union.
