Mass grave found in former Daesh stronghold in Libya

Tripoli, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) At least 18 bodies were found in a mass grave in the Libyan city of Sirte, a former stronghold of the extremist group Islamic State (Daesh).

Authority announced in a statement that the Missing Persons remains were unearthed yesterday in the Sabaa region in central Libya and taken to a local hospital.

The report notes that they collected samples of the bones in an effort to identify the victims, however it does not provide further details on the cause of death.

Sirte fell under the control of Daesh militants in 2015, who were expelled later in 2016.

International organizations recently revealed and denounced the discovery of several mass graves in Libya, devastated after the military invasion of the forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) against the legitimate government of Muammar Gadhafi.

The conflict lasted from February to October 2011 and ended with the assassination of the Libyan leader.

International analysts say that the real objective of the operation was to take control of its oil reserves and privatize the industry, transferring control and ownership of its wealth to foreign hands.
