Serbia condemns blockade against Cuba and demands its end

Belgrade, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) The Serbian-Cuban Friendship Association reiterated on Tuesday its condemnation of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the island and demanded its immediate lifting.

Zorica Dobrijevic, general secretary of the Association, in declarations to Prensa Latina, said that since its founding in 1995, its members have been very active in solidarity with the island and its struggles.

We always remember our participation in the international campaign for the release of Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González, the five Cuban heroes who were unjustly held in US prisons for several years, she said.

The Covid-19 pandemic limited our physical activities supporting Cuba but kept active through video conferences, also paying tribute to Fidel Castro, José Martí, and Ernesto Che Guevara and commemorating important dates, she said.

Last year, Zorica and her husband, Sveto Dobrijevic, who presides over the Association, received the Medal of Friendship and the 60th Anniversary commemorative seal bestowed by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in recognition of their solidarity work.

Talking with Prensa Latina, Zorica Dobrijevic thanked the work done by diplomat Gustavo Trista, who completed his mission as a Cuban Ambassador to Serbia, and assured that the close ties with the new Ambassador, Leyde Ernesto Rodriguez, will be maintained.
