Rome, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Agriculture Minister Ydael Pérez is in Italy to participate in the 43rd Biennial Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a diplomatic source stated on Saturday.

Claudia González, a counselor at the Cuban Embassy in Italy, told Prensa Latina that the minister would have a busy agenda that will include a meeting with FAO Director-General QU Dongyu on Thursday afternoon, parallel to the event that is taking place from July 1 to 7 in this capital.

González, who serves as a Deputy Permanent Representative to FAO, the World Food Program (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) based in Rome, stated that Pérez and his delegation would also meet with senior officials from those institutions.

There will be meetings with agriculture ministers and other representatives of the countries that are participating in the Conference, said the diplomat, who is part of Cuba’s delegation to the convention.

Pérez is expected to take the floor at the forum’s plenary session and participate in several roundtable discussions, which the remaining members of the Cuban delegation, including Carlos Martin, director of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Trade, will attend.

The delegation also includes Yelitza García, director of the Agricultural Policy Department at the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture, and Gabriela Gámez, third secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Rome and alternate representative at the United Nations agencies in this capital.
