Russia denies Borrell’s accusations on food pact

Moscow, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Russia rejected accusations by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, according to whom Mowcow allegedly supplies cheap grains to vulnerable countries to create new dependencies, Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

“That is absolutely untrue, Russia always was and remains, despite the known problems, a reliable supplier,” Peskov told reporters.

The spokesman noted that Russia complies with all its obligations; however, sanctions, “illegal from the point of view of international law,” hinder meeting a growing demand.

On July 31, Borrell sent a letter to the developing countries and member States of the Group of Twenty (G20) to take a common position on the food pact.

In his message, the diplomat also accused Russia of allegedly “using food as a weapon” by supplying vulnerable countries with limited shipments of grains.

On July 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that his country will supply 25,000-50,000 tons of free grains to several African countries, including Burkina Faso, Eritrea, and Mali in the coming months.
