Communist Party of Chile appoints Lautaro Carmona as president

Santiago de Chile, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) The Communist Party of Chile (PCCh) appointed Lautaro Carmona as its new president on Sunday to replace Guillermo Teillier, who led the organization for 18 years until his death on August 29.

The 15th plenary session of the PCCh Central Committee also chose Bárbara Figueroa, current ambassador to Argentina and former president of the Unitary Workers’ Central Committee (2012-2021), as general secretary.

The new leadership will be in office until March 2024, when the next PCCh Congress will be held.

At the plenary session, which open on Saturday, the national political situation and the need to strengthen the party’s leadership were reviewed.
