We will never turn our back on Cuba, López Obrador states

Mexico, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) We will never turn our back on Cuba, so that there are no doubts, including oil, because it is a country that suffers from an unjust blockade, Andrés Manuel López Obrador stressed on Monday.

The Mexican president was strongly answering a question from a journalist at his morning press conference, about fake statements on an alleged sanction by Exibank for suppling oil to Cuba.

The journalist asked him if the decision to supply crude oil to Cuba had bothered the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and López Obrador responded that his northern neighbor had been very respectful about it and had not brought up the issue. “That was invented by the right wing,” he added.

He recalled that Pemex director Octavio Oropeza had made it very clear and made statements again denying the lies from his adversaries.

There is no difference in that with the United States, but apart from that, we are going to do everything we can to help the Cuban people, so that there is no doubt once and for all, we are going to do it, including oil, because the Cuban people are suffering from an inhumane, unjust blockade and we are not going to turn our backs on it, nor do we have to ask permission from any foreign government because we are free, independent and sovereign, the Mexican President stressed.

“If the Cubans tell us, sell us oil because we don’t have a way to acquire it, of course we will sell it to you, just like them when we told them to help us because we don’t have specialized doctors and when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and they sent them and we thank you very much,” López Obrador stated.

We are supporters of universal brotherhood and that makes us different and fills us with pride to be different from conservatives, he added. We cannot be equal, and we arrived here with a movement in favor of justice and humanism.

What we want is fraternity, justice and solidarity with all peoples, and if that means being communists, populists, put me on the list, he assured.

He denied again “the parrots on the right about the alleged fines. The other thing, so that you can understand it once and for all, they have asked me so many times that Exibank had fined us and that they denied us a loan, but there is nothing of that, nor a fine nor in relation to Pemex, I don’t know why they do it.”
