Cuba and Romania hold political consultations

Bucharest, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Eduardo Rodríguez Perdomo headed a round of political consultations between the Caribbean island and Romania in this capital, it was learned on Wednesday.

Secretary of State for Global and Strategic Affairs Traian Hristea headed the Romanian delegation at the meeting, the Cuban Embassy here reported.

Both deputy foreign ministers reviewed the state of bilateral relations and other international issues of common interest, in what was the first meeting at that level in nearly a decade.

The round of talks was described as useful and constructive.

During his stay here, the Cuban deputy foreign minister has had a busy agenda that included a meeting with the Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Group, made up of members of both chambers of the legislature and various political forces, chaired by lawmaker Radu Cristescu.

Rodríguez Perdomo met with lawmaker Alfred Robert Simonis, acting president of the lower house of Parliament, and the Minister of Public Health Alexandru Rafila, according to the report.

In all cases, the Cuban diplomat thanked, Romania and the European Union for their support for Cuba’s Resolution against the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

At the same time, he provided a detailed explanation about Cuba’s role as President of Group of 77 plus China.

Rodríguez Perdomo also visited the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in this capital, where the vice rector, Dr. Razvan Ionut Teodorescu, explained the main research programs, and announced that next year, they expect to receive several Cuban students who will pursue doctorates in various teaching specialties.

As a culmination of the visit, the Cuban deputy foreign minister met with members of Cuba solidarity groups in a warm atmosphere of camaraderie. He thanked them for their unconditional support, encouraging them to continue to accompany Cuba.

Cuban Ambassador to Romania Déborah Ojeda Valedón accompanied Rodríguez Perdomo during his stay in this country.
