Survey reveals rejection of new Chilean constitutional project

Santiago de Chile, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) More than half of Chileans oppose the final proposal for the new constitution that will be submitted to a vote in the plenary session of the Constitutional Council, according to a poll published here.

Based on the poll by the firm Plaza Pública Cadem, 51% of those interviewed would reject the project, 34 out of 100 would approve it and 15% do not know or do not answer.

The text was drafted by the 50-member council where the extremist Republican Party and the right-wing coalition Chile Vamos made use of their majority to agree on controversial amendments.

Among these are those that attempt against gender parity in the National Congress and oppose the voluntary interruption of pregnancy in case of rape, fetal non-viability and danger to the mother’s life.

The proposed fundamental law also goes against collective bargaining, the right to strike and freedom of association and attempts to benefit private health institutions, which have turned this service into a business.
