The CARDH noted in a press release that it implemented measures in the last few months to reduce its activities, considering consistent information and indications.
“Given the materialization of these threats, CARDH suspends its activities aimed at contributing to the construction of democracy and the rule of law in Haiti,” the institution assured and affirmed that it awaits protective measures to be taken to resume its work.
CARDH recalled its commitment to the cause of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights and reiterated that it operates independently without political interest. It also noted that the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders obliges national, regional, and international duty bearers to take measures to protect human rights defenders and create conditions for them to carry out their work.
