Moscow, Dec 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuban residents in Russia today expressed their commitment to join forces to collaborate with the development of their nation, given the complex times facing the Caribbean country.

In a meeting held at the Cuban embassy in Moscow, those present highlighted there are times when unity is an indispensable factor to demand from the world the cessation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.

Likewise, the president of the Association of Cuban Residents in Russia, Jesús González, advocated taking concrete actions to demand that Cuba be removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Likewise, he urged members of the community to join the initiatives orchestrated from other territories to send donations with medical supplies, as well as other essential goods, to the country.

For his part, Eddy Reyes told those present his impressions after participating in the IV Conference of the Nation and Emigration held in the Cuban capital on November 18 and 19, where 361 Cubans residing in 54 countries participated.

“It is worth highlighting the revolutionary atmosphere that was experienced at the meeting, which impressed me, I never thought that the Cuban community abroad had so much support for the Revolution and so much repudiation of the blockade,” stated the compatriot.

In this regard, he highlighted the dialogue with the highest authorities of the largest of the Antilles, specifically with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who received the delegates at the Palace of the Revolution.

Reyes praised as one of the achievements of the interaction of the Cuban State with its compatriots abroad the recent measures to extend the validity of the passport to 10 years and the permanence of the 24-month moratorium for stays abroad.

He classified the Conference as patriotic, where the defense of the principles of sovereignty, independence and self-determination, of love for the country, prevailed, and took the opportunity to invite his colleagues living in the Eurasian giant to participate in future editions.

Members of the Havana state mission in Moscow were also present at the meeting on December 17, a favorable space for the Cuban ambassador Julio Garmendía to inform the residents of the actions in the international arena deployed during 2023 by the Antillean government, especially with Russia.

In this sense, the consul general of Cuba in the Slavic nation, Liana Hernández, thanked the presence of the compatriots and their families at the meeting, while she assured that the embassy is the home of all Cubans present in Russian territory.

“When there are only a few days left to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution, it is a pleasure to be able to gather in this space so much Cuban blood of people who, although far from their land, perpetuate with their daily actions the lineage of our founding fathers, and are committed to “preserve our culture and tradition as a weapon of the nation,” stated the diplomat.

At the closing of the activity, the Cuban painter Lesmes Larrosa, who is studying a master’s degree at the Russian Gzhel University of Manual Arts, gave the ambassador a painting depicting the National Apostle José Martí in his ties with Russia.
