Dominican Republic registers two feminicides in three days

Santo Domingo, Jan 3 (Prensa Latina) Dominican Republic began 2024 with two femicides in the provinces of Valverde (northwest) and La Vega (center), a tragedy that persists in the country and that in 2023 left 51 victims.

One of the murders occurred early Tuesday morning in the municipality of Mao, Valverde, where the body of young policewoman Nolvery Domedy Vanderhorst Delgado, who was shot several times by her partner, was found.

According to testimonies of residents in the area, Delgado and her boyfriend, also a member of the police force, had an argument and then the aggressor shot her with his service weapon, presumably out of jealousy.

Neighbors described Delgado, 29, as a “decent and quiet” young woman who had been living in the area for about a year, while Vladimir Heredia, 26, had only been in the house for two months.

The newspaper also said on Wednesday that another woman was found dead and with signs of violence inside a house located in the Villa Rosa Rosa sector of La Vega.

The victim was identified as Fatima Lopez Rosario, 53 years old, and Arquimedes Santos, who is accused of causing her death, is being held at the regional directorate of the National Police.
