Paraguayan newspaper calls to stop female violence increase

Violencia-contra-la-mujer
Asuncion, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) During the first two weeks of the new year, violence against women in Paraguay registered an overwhelming increase, after a 2023 that left 45 deaths and some 80 orphaned children, the newspaper Ultima Hora commented today.

We are living a virtual pandemic, as the UN calls feminicides and aggressions against this gender in general, despite legal advances that recognize the negative aspects of these practices, the newspaper added in an editorial titled “Urgent actions by the State to stop violence against women”.

“We still have a long way to go as a society to change the culture and education that normalizes violence against women, based on the acceptance of discrimination, inequality and male chauvinism”, the publication assures.

According to the newspaper, Paraguay has made progress to put an end to violence against women and girls, but neither the laws nor the institutions are able to put a stop to this type of aggression closing 2023 with the worst figures.

Última Hora recalled “as one of the achievements” Law 5777 on the complete protection of women against all forms of violence, which promotes and guarantees the right of the sector to a life free of this social scourge.

This legislation establishes that feminicidal violence leads to death or inflicts physical, sexual, psychological, patrimonial or economic damage or suffering on women,” only because of their female condition”, the newspaper explains.
