According to the National Statistics Institute’s Continuous Household Survey, the number of undocumented workers in the social security system rose 22.6 percent in December 2023. It achieved 22.3 percent in November 2023.

The survey stated that the unemployment rate reached 7.8 percent in December 2023.

According to official estimates, some 146,000 people are jobless.

Unemployment amounted to 8.6 percent inside the country, compared to 6.5 percent in Montevideo.
