He was voted by 72 legislators and eight abstentions, in a session brought forward thanks to a modification of the internal regulations authorizing early election of the legislative authorities, although the new period begins months later.

Media such as HOY newspaper commented that the decision of the Lower House marked a record of anticipation, in comparison with previous votes, in which deputies waited closer to the beginning of the term.

According to Paraguayan law, the Senate will also vote for its leadership at the end of June, unless that body changes the rules of procedure as well as the Chamber of Deputies and enables the anticipation.
