Physicians in Costa Rica refuse to work overtime

San José, Mar 28 (Prensa Latina) Specialist physicians and trade union representatives maintain their decision on Thursday to suspend work overtime due to the lack of consensus with the Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) to demand better working conditions and salaries.

The trade union and the National Union of Doctors and Specialists (SINAME) remain firm in the protest announced as of Monday, April 1, not to assist citizens after hours. Services could be affected in medical and emergency care centers and on weekends after 16:00 hours, local time.

On Wednesday, CCSS and SINAME leaders held a new meeting after the union rejected the previous meeting.

Given the attitude and lack of interest by the members of the CCSS Board of Directors to seek sufficient and lasting solutions to the serious problem involving the terrible working conditions of the specialist and resident doctors of this noble institution, the union’s Board of Directors has decided not to come to the work sessions of the management, SINAME president Mario Quesada stated.
