Brazil reported 225 missing persons a day in 2023

Brasilia, Apr 14 (Prensa Latina) Brazil reported an average of 225 missing people a day in 2023, as revealed by the Public Security Map of the Ministry of Justice.

During that year, 82,287 incidents were reported, accounting for an increase of two percent compared to 2022, which closed with 80,675 cases.

The report shows that 40.9 percent of the records were concentrated in the southeastern region of the country, a percentage influenced by the state of São Paulo, which had 18,421 missing people last year.

The southern region comes next with 25.4 percent of the total. The lowest percentage was in the north, with six percent of the cases.

The rate is the third consecutive increase in the number of disappearances since 2020.

The Ministry reported that the states of Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia and Santa Catarina will not send statistics for 2020, which may alter the analysis.

The states of Mato Grosso do Sul, with 235.95 percent, Paraíba (48.02), Piauí (44.03), Acre (29.12) and Pará (18.54) reported the highest percentage increases between 2022 and 2023.

The report showed that 63 percent of the missing persons were men, 36 percent were women and in one percent of the cases the gender was not reported.
