Trials of drug traffickers underway in El Salvador

San Salvador, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) A court in San Salvador is trying seven foreigners accused of illicit trafficking of cocaine worth 57 million dollars, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) informed on Friday.

The accused in the Fourth Sentencing Court of San Salvador were arrested during an raid by the National Navy in August 2022, at some 442 nautical miles south of Punta Remedios, near Acajutla.

The group includes two Colombians identified as Luis Emiro Paredes Landdazuri and Edward Alegría Góngora, as well as Biron Stalin Díaz Avila of Ecuadorian nationality, and four Guatemalans: César Ovidio Lima Herrera, Carlos Roberto Juncos Mazariego, Edvin Rufino Fuentes Mazariego and Teófilo Rodrigo Juncos Mazariego.

The prosecutor explained that three of the defendants were transporting 2,290 packages of cocaine worth 57,250,000 dollars, on board a low-profile vessel.

The Guatemalans were apprehended as they were on their way to the point where the procedure was being carried out with fuel to supply the vessel.
