French association receives Eusebio Leal Commemorative Medal in Cuba

Havana, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) The Cuba Cooperation France Association (CubaCoop) has received the commemorative medal for Eusebio Leal's 80th birthday, a decision that Roger Grevoul, the honorary president of the association, described as a great honor and commitment.

Perla Rosales, deputy director of the Office of the Historian of Havana, presented the decoration at an event at the Friendship House, in the presence of Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP).

In an interview with Prensa Latina, Grevoul stated that he was moved by the medal, which at the same time “is a responsibility because I consider Eusebio Leal, who died in 2020, an exceptional man who did a lot not only for Old Havana but for all of Cuba.”

He recalled that more than 25 years ago, they worked together on the project that would eventually be Victor Hugo’s House, in the historic center of Havana and dedicated to promoting relations between Cuba and France, especially in culture.

“It was Eusebio who suggested that we name it after Victor Hugo,” he confessed, recalling that Leal was a great admirer of France and its culture.

Present at the event were the ICAP president and the deputy director of the Office of the Historian of Havana, who praised CubaCoop’s work to promote development projects in several sectors in Cuba.

The meeting was part of a visit to Cuba by a CubaCoop delegation of some 40 members, including officials, entrepreneurs, and representatives of political forces and trade unions.
