The process of reviving the Dnieper Fleet, which existed in the years of World War II, was initiated at the beginning of this year, the military information department indicated.

According to the release, the issue of supplying helicopters to the flotilla has high priority, and in the coming months the new operational unit will receive troops, as well as weapons and equipment.

On March 20, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the formation of the Dnieper military fleet.

According to former Russian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Victor Kravchenko, the fleet should include a brigade of small missile boats, artillery and missile boats, river minesweepers, marine, coastal missile and artillery units.

The main task of the fleet will be to ensure the crossing of the Dnieper River in cooperation with Ground Forces and Black Sea Fleet units.
