FA considers insufficient Pablo Iturralde resignation

Montevideo, May 24 (Prensa Latina) The Frente Amplio considered insufficient the resignation of the president of the National Party, Pablo Iturralde, who is the visible head of a scandal linked to former Ssenator Gustavo Penadéz, imprisoned and indicted for sexual crimes.

Iturralde’s resignation is a necessary but insufficient step to repair damage caused to the country by the process of degradation we have been going through in recent years, according to a statement from the National Secretariat of the Frente Amplio (FA).

The statement refers to chats between Iturralde and Penadés, in which the former alludes to the affinity with the prosecutor of the case against the former legislator, Alicia Ghione, whom he calls a “friend”, while he insults other prosecutors.

The Front demands a full investigation and considers that these facts are as serious as other scandals, such as the participation of the presidential advisor, Roberto Lafluf, in actions of obstruction of justice.

We regret that this government once again exposes our country to another fact that adds to a long list of actions that generate a process of institutional degradation, the statement says.
