Esteban Lazo visits productive and social areas in central Cuba

Santa Clara, Cuba, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) The President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State Esteban Lazo toured productive and social sites in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara here on Friday.

“You are helping the country and we need many people to follow your example,” Lazo said after visiting the market of the La Veguita farm, owned by farmer Noel Rolando Benitez, considered one of Cuba’s best producers of covered tobacco.

Noel, legislator to the National Assembly of People’s Power and president of the People’s Council of Tahon, in the municipality of Remedios, is dedicated, in addition to growing tobacco for export, to various other crops, and to raising cattle and rustic chickens with the application of science and innovation.

Accompanied by Ana Maria Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly, Lazo was interested in the two international collaboration projects developed by this tobacco grower, which also contributes to self-sufficiency and food sovereignty.

These production plans have allowed the use of cutting-edge technology in production, to the benefit of a rural community of over 800 inhabitants, as well as the settlers of the towns of Placetas and Zulueta, who also go to the market.

Lazo called for the generalization of these experiences and highlighted the advantages of direct commercialization to reduce costs and avoid abusive and speculative prices imposed by intermediaries.

The visit of the also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba is part of a tour of this central Cuban province by parliamentary authorities who are assessing the administrative management and the fulfillment of socio-economic measures prior to the Villa Clara Government’s presentation of its accounts to the National Assembly of People’s Power.
