Vice Minister of Communication Gabriela Alcón confirmed that the call will be announced next week to all business sectors. She also specified the change rate, exports and imports, and fuel subsidies will be at the center of the debate, among other issues. She added that the Government will listen to the position of the different population sectors to make decisions on structural topics for the country and avoid threats to stability and social peace.
President Luis Arce proposed this Tuesday to convene a referendum on whether or not to maintain the hydrocarbon subsidy, the distribution of seats in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP), and define whether to admit continuous or discontinuous presidential re-election.
During a speech on the occasion of the 199th anniversary of independence, the head of state explained the reason for this initiative: “Difficult moments require firm decisions, mature, thoughtful and human beings who do not fail in the face of adversity, and this is precisely a moment of this nature,” said Arce, adding that “for this reason and faithful to the commitment to the country, to the people and through democratic means”, a referendum is called on the date on which the judicial elections take place.
The president also indicated that it is the moment in which the people and their Government must choose the path they wish to take in the face of the Bicentennial to eradicate the problems linked to the supply of diesel caused by several factors.
Another adversity to be clarified in the referendum is the shortage of dollars since both issues “are being used politically by some groups to generate instability scenarios.”
