This Thursday the full parliamentary session will finally decide whether or not to archive the process against the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.
The official is also accused of not having provided safe passage to the former vice president Glas to travel to Mexico, which had granted him political asylum.
In her defense, Sommerfeld stated that this is a trial against Ecuador since in her opinion the accusations have nothing to do with non-compliance with the functions and powers granted to her by the Constitution and the law.
Another accusation against the Minister is related to the consequences of the Government’s decision to exchange Russian war matériel, considered scrap, with the United States, which would then send it to Ukraine. However, President Daniel Noboa suspended that operation after the controversy that arose subsequently.
Last Friday, the report rejected by the Commission pointed out the national regulations that Sommerfeld had failed to comply with, including the Constitution and the Organic Law of the Foreign Service.
