Fight against smuggling in Bolivia claimed eight military lives

La Paz, Dec 19 (Prensa Latina) The fight against smuggling in Bolivia caused until today the death of eight military and left 15 wounded, the head of the Strategic Operational Command (CEO-LCC), Colonel Felix Sandro Gutierrez said.

According to the authority, three vehicles of this armed corps were burned by those who practice these illicit activities, in a context in which many times the population left the military alone.

“Unfortunately, throughout this year, we have had eight casualties among the CEO personnel; we do our job and when the smugglers burn and ambush, the population remains silent (…)”, he told the press.

Gutiérrez insisted on the need for the inhabitants of the areas where these events occur to cooperate.

The colonel added that, in spite of these inconveniences, the work of border protection and the fight against contraband presented positive results.

He described that so far this year they have seized products of the so-called black line (televisions and computers) and white line (refrigerators and washing machines).

He also pointed out that in six months they seized more than 20 trucks with used clothes.

He indicated that in the last months the fight focused on the so-called reverse smuggling to stop the illegal exit of fuels and food to border countries where they are sold at prices several times more expensive, with the corresponding shortage and increase in the domestic market.
