Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office reaffirms commitment to fight crime

Caracas, Jan. 21 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan Prosecutor's Office ratified on Monday its commitment to fight crime and its willingness to resume cooperation on the issue with the United States Government. The aim is to facilitate the extradition of any Venezuelan in transnational criminal groups who commit crimes throughout the region, said Attorney General Tarek William Saab in a statement.

The Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office informed national and international opinion that the fight against Structured Organized Crime Groups “is a central axis of its work in defense of peace, justice and human rights.”

In this regard, he pointed out that since the beginning of his term they have been involved in “an arduous task to dismantle criminal groups such as the Tren de Aragua, or the gangs of El Koki, Wilmer Bachiller, El Conas, Carlos Capas, Eduardo Delicias and El Yiyi Boscán, among others.”

He explained that the process to dismantle the Tren de Aragua implies two stages, with the first beginning in 2021 and consisting of locating and arresting its leaders and members.

A second, he added, began after the takeover of the Tocorón prison, in the state of Aragua (north), on September 20, 2023, involving “the definitive dismantling of the criminal organization and its financial muscle.”

The note specified that there are 48 individuals on trial for their participation in that criminal group, adding that several of its members died in confrontations with the security forces and others are “facing arrest warrants and red alerts to Interpol.”
