Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba rejected U.S. stance

Bogota, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba today rejected the decision of US President, Donald Trump, to include the island again in the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

In its communiqué, the organization considered this act lacks legitimate reasons and that, in addition to a direct attack against the Caribbean country, it also represents one more obstacle on the road to international policies based on respect for the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples, peace, cooperation and solidarity among nations.

He also described the policy followed by the U.S. president as “part of an imperialist and fascist plan to interfere in the future of the worthy peoples of the world, who for decades have resisted the interference offensive, now supported by the tycoons who own the main social networks and global communication chains.”

This decision is not only unjust, but dangerous; reincorporating Cuba in this list means perpetuating the policies of isolation and blockade, condemning the entire country to face new and greater limitations in its development, access to essential resources and above all, in its international, political, financial and commercial relations’, reads the communiqué.

The Movement stressed that, today more than ever, it reaffirms its commitment to truth, justice and solidarity with the sister island, which daily suffers the ravages of remaining on the infamous list and of resisting the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

In the interest of freeing the country from such infamous policies, -he urged-, we call on the peoples of the world and their rulers to condemn this measure and to defend Cuba’s right to be a free, sovereign and solidary nation.

There is no justification for punishing those who extend their hand to brotherly peoples; there is no excuse for keeping an entire nation under the yoke of a criminal blockade.

Terrorism is pretending to subjugate a people. Cuba is not terrorist, “we demand its removal from the list”, the document stated.

On the 20th, a few hours after assuming the Presidency, Trump signed an order to revoke the exclusion from the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, announced six days earlier by former outgoing President Joe Biden.

In response, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel commented that, in an act of arrogance and contempt for the truth, the Republican reinstated the fraudulent designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.

“It is not surprising. His objective is to continue strengthening the cruel economic war against Cuba for the purpose of domination”, he stated.
