The statement, also signed by a similar group in Latin America and the Caribbean, denounces the implementation of lists and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the White House against the largest of the Antilles.
These actions have the purpose of subduing, forcing and attempting to subdue an entire people through a criminal economic, commercial and financial war, which violates the basic principles of sovereignty, justice and human rights, the document indicated.
“We observe with indignation how, just a few hours after taking office, President Donald Trump reinstated these coercive measures. This setback does not surprise us, as it responds to a pattern of hatred and manipulation that serves the interests of those who profit from the Cuban people’s suffering,” the text added.
The media machinery, supported by a big farce, covers up a multimillion-dollar business that benefits Miami-based organizations, whose only purpose is to perpetuate hostility towards Cuba, according to the AMCRP.
In the face of this injustice and abuse, the statement noted, we reiterate that our voices, together with those of millions of people in the world, will continue to be raised to denounce and condemn this vile and criminal policy and we reaffirm our solidarity and support for our brothers, convinced that Cuba shall overcome.
As soon as the face-to-face inauguration concluded, the Republican politician revoked the order of his predecessor, Joe Biden, who excluded Havana from the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
In this regard, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel had stressed that the measure is an act of arrogance and contempt, which is not surprising and is intended for domination.
On January 14, Biden made his decision, albeit late, that Cuba “should no longer be designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.”
He also issued a waiver for Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, also known as the Libertad Act, for a period of six months and rescinded National Security Presidential Memorandum 5 of 2017 on policy towards Cuba to eliminate the so-called restricted list.
