This was revealed in the Can Tho Declaration, issued at the end of the Francophone Parliamentary Cooperation Forum on sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate change, which was opened in this southern Mekong Delta city on Tuesday.
At the meeting, delegates discussed the importance of the agricultural sector in the member countries of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophone (APF) and its relationship to global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and social inequality.
Legislators also stressed the essential role that Parliaments must play in developing policies and promoting international cooperation to develop sustainable agriculture and ensure food security.
The Forum included three thematic sessions on cooperation in sustainable agriculture, food security, and sharing experiences in responding to climate change.
As part of the Forum’s program, participants learned about experiences in the Mekong Delta on sustainable agricultural models, livelihood transformation, and improving value to agricultural production.
