The ceasefire initiated on Sunday, January 19, must be a first step towards a lasting and sustainable peace in the region, the Christian Church affirmed in a statement issued in this capital.
The statement denounced the war’s impact on more than two million Gazans.
The conflict has not been limited to material destruction, but has spread to leave a deep wound in the global human conscience, it stressed.
The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem also called on the world to increase humanitarian aid to the coastal enclave, where more than 47,000 people were reportedly killed and 109,000 were wounded since the war started in October 2023.
