Cubans and Dominicans pay tribute to Father of the Nation Duarte

Santo Domingo, 26 January (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Embassy in the Dominican Republic and the Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba paid tribute on Sunday to the Father of the Dominican Nation, Juan Pablo Duarte, on his 212th birthday.

“Our Homeland must be free and independent from any foreign powers, or the island sinks,” the embassy wrote in a post on X, quoting one of the most famous statements by the independence hero (1813-1876).

Cuban Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Angel Arzuaga and members of the Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba attended the ceremony, held before Duarte’s bust in the park that bears his name, in the colonial district of Santo Domingo, according to pictures posted on the same platform.

The Cuban Embassy also wrote, “We pay tribute to one of the Fathers of the Dominican Nation, Juan Pablo Duarte (…) who shaped the Dominican Republic as a free and independent nation from any foreign powers.”

There is no better site to recall Duarte for the Dominicans than that chosen by La Trinitaria, a society he founded in 1838, to meet in order to free the eastern part of Hispaniola from Haiti.
