Speaking at the 12th Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), the Cuban head of State noted that it is impossible to forget the interventionist episodes that a few years ago were carried out in the region by the Donald Trump administration, which used delirious and dangerous plans.
“Today, this government of the United States intends to define the options for the countries of the region, which are either to submit us or to be the object of aggression,” he warned.
Díaz-Canel stated that since January 20, the new US administration has shown total disregard for the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, through the use of lies, manipulation and the use of racist epithets.
“They label millions of innocent people criminals for being Latin American and Caribbean and the US Government threatens and tries to legitimize the imposition of unilateral coercive measures and other decisions without respect for the order of other countries,” he added.
Díaz-Canel pointed out that in this scenario, it is necessary to discern well between the rhetoric and the desperation of these players to achieve short-term objectives.
The Cuban leader considered that this meeting, an initiative from the ALBA-TCP Secretariat, is very useful to update the work priorities of the bloc and exchange on current and future challenges.
“We want to take this opportunity to express gratitude for the efforts and the demand for Cuba’s removal from that list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism with which the members of this Alliance have accompanied us,” he stressed.
Díaz-Canel stressed that the Joe Biden administration, like the US Government, was forced to recognize, albeit belatedly, that there was no reason or argument to keep Cuba on the “fraudulent and spurious list.”
