Dominican Army handed over 90,000 Haitians to Immigration in 180 days

Santo Domingo, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The Army of the Dominican Republic informed today that it handed over, to the General Directorate of Migration, 90,018 Haitian citizens in irregular conditions, detained in operations carried out by the institution in the last six months.

According to a press release from the military body, from August 17, 2024 to the 17th of this month, 275 persons (civilians and military) were also handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for trafficking of undocumented immigrants.

These individuals were arrested in the referred period while transporting foreigners in different types of vehicles, of which 1,210 were confiscated and handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

It was reported that the undocumented immigrants were arrested in the provinces of Azua, Elías Piña, San Juan de la Maguana, Santiago, La Vega, Duarte, Puerto Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Dajabón, Montecristi, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Barahona and Independencia.

Army Commander General, Major General Jorge Iván Camino, reaffirmed the commitment of this institution addressing the trafficking of undocumented immigrants.
