State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua made this remark when referring to the Government Report submitted to Parliament recently.
“We are willing to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity,” he said.
However, Chen warned that if separatist forces seeking Taiwan independence defy fundamental principles or cross red lines, “strong measures will be taken.”
The spokesperson stressed that the current complex situation in the strait is mainly due to provocations by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, who seek to ally with foreign forces to promote the separatist agenda.
He underscored that China has the firm will, full confidence, and sufficient capability to thwart any independence attempts and defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Chen said in a press briefing, “Taiwan is part of China, and resolving the Taiwan issue is China’s domestic affairs.”
