In response to a letter from the government, which urged the main opposition parties ( FP and Dominican Liberation) to participate in a meeting within the framework of a national pact for the formulation of State policies to face the situation in Haiti, he explained that 15 measures of the Executive to face this situation were added in the same letter.
In this sense, he criticized that, instead of opening a genuine dialogue, the authorities summoned the parties only to support measures already taken unilaterally.
In the FP we consider that under the current circumstances, the Dominican Republic needs to address the irregular flow with wisdom and a sense of urgency, he said.
“The Haitian crisis is too serious to fall into politicking,” he warned in a public statement.
Fernandez considered that this unprecedented irregular migratory flow, due to the crisis situation in the neighboring nation, represents a serious risk to national security and it is evident that compliance with immigration laws is essential.
In this regard, he criticized the management of the government of Luis Abinader regarding the construction of the perimeter fence on the border with Haiti, noting that after three years of work, only 2.7 kilometers of the 164 kilometers planned have been delivered.
He warned that significant delays have been reported which have undermined the confidence of Dominicans and said that, at this rate, its delivery will take decades.
