At a meeting of the CDU presidency, Merz spoke about the ministries’ distribution within the party, where he stated that Germany’s next foreign minister will be Johann Wadephul, who until now was an expert in foreign policy issues.
According to Merz, former top manager Karsten Wildberger is to be the new Minister for Digital Affairs and State Modernization, while former parliamentarian Katherina Reiche will become Germany’s Economy and Energy Minister.
He also announced that Nina Warken will be the Health Minister and Patrick Schnyder will be the Transport Minister.
The elections, which were held in Germany in late February, placed Germany’s CDU and Friedrich Merz’s Christian Social Union (CSU) of Bavaria with 28.5 percent of the votes.
Meanwhile, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfG) came second with 20.8 percent, the best result ever for such a party. The Social Democratic Party (SPD), led by incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz, fell 10 percentage points to reach only 16.4 percent.
