Home Ministry sources stated that blackouts, camouflage of vital facilities, people training to protect themselves in case of an attack, and updating and rehearsal of evacuation plans will be implemented in several states.
The drill is in addition to India’s practical preparedness operations, amid the threat of a new conflict with Pakistan due to the growing deterioration of bilateral ties following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir.
Pakistan is, for New Delhi, indirectly responsible for the attack that killed 26 people.
According to Indian authorities, it has cross-border links with the attackers, something that Islamabad strongly denies.
Amid escalating tensions on Monday, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Navy tested a multi-influence landmine, designed and developed in India to enhance the Navy’s capabilities against stealth ships and modern submarines.
