The Observatory “Adriana Marisel Zambrano” of Casa del Encuentro stated that from January 1 to April 30 there were 90 femicides involving women and girls, and six involving adult males.
Buenos Aires province reported the highest number with 37, followed by Santa Fe with 11, Córdoba with seven, and Mendoza with six.
La Casa del Encuentro’s report indicates that 83 sons and daughters were left motherless, 48 percent of whom are minors.
InfoRegion highlights a striking fact repeated from report to report: 15 of the victims had prior complaints before the femicides, and six of them had protection measures in place.
Other data indicate that one of the victims was from indigenous peoples, four were migrants, and one was pregnant.
Six of the crimes were committed in the context of narco-criminality, and in eight femicides, the perpetrators committed suicide after the murder.
In a recent report, UN Women underscored that gender-based homicide (also called ‘femicide’ or ‘feminicide’) is the most brutal and extreme manifestation of violence against women and girls.
