The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the draft resolution adopted unanimously by the General Affairs Committee during the 113th session of the ILC.
The measure must now be formally approved by the ILO Governing Body on Thursday, June 4.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the decision grants Palestine expanded observer rights.
It added that it balances Palestine’s status in the ILO with its membership in other institutions, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
It also called for the need for an immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
The initiative grants Palestine prerogatives at the ILO, including voting, being inscribed on the list of speakers for all items, making statements on behalf of groups, submitting and co-sponsoring proposals and amendments, responding, and raising procedural motions, among other rights.
