In addition to Bolsonaro, one of his sons, Rio de Janeiro City Councilman Carlos Bolsonaro, and federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem, former director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency during the previous administration, were also involved.
The investigations revealed that the so-called parallel Brazilian Intelligence Agency was an illegal espionage scheme against authorities and other persons during Bolsonaro’s term.
Some of the targets were considered adversaries of the former president, including Supreme Court justices such as Alexandre de Moraes and Gilmar Mendes, former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Rodrigo Maia, and former Education Minister Camilo Santana, then governor of the state of Ceara, who were allegedly spied on. The list also includes journalists.
During his tenure, the agency was also allegedly used to prepare reports for the defense of Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, another son of the former president, in the case of alleged bribery in his office when he was a state representative for Rio.
In addition to Bolsonaro’s son, the January crusade targeted an advisor to the councilman, Luciana Almeida, and another of Ramagem’s, Priscilla Pereira e Silva.
Evidence of this is the exchange of messages found by the police in which Almeida requests Ramagem to uncover confidential investigations in which members of the Bolsonaro family were allegedly involved.
