In front of the mausoleum that houses his remains, in Colon Cemetery of Havana, officials of the Communist Party and the government gathered, along with members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Association of Veterants of the Cuban Revolution, to pay tribute to the Dominican – Cuban hero.

At the opening of the ceremony, as a sign of respect and admiration, a wreath was placed on behalf of the Cuban people, according to the publication Verde Olivo.

“Today, the figure of the Generalissimo stands as a benchmark in the defense of our achieved independence,” said Major General Vicente Rodriguez in the keynote address.

Maximo Gomez was the greatest military strategist of his time and a fundamental pillar of our independence struggles.

Cuba remembers him alive and continues his legacy of courage and internationalism.
