Jordan advocates halting escalation between Iran and Israel

Amman, June 17 (Prensa Latina) Jordanian King Abdullah II called for intensified efforts to contain the escalating conflict between Iran and the Israeli regime and achieve general calm in the Middle East.

According to a statement from the royal court released by the official Petra news agency, Abdullah II stated during a telephone conversation with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid that the continued Zionist attacks against the Persian nation threaten to expand the conflict and destabilize the region.

The Hashemite King reiterated Jordan’s firm stance that it will not be a battlefield in any conflict nor tolerate any threat to its security and stability.

The Jordanian monarch also spoke by telephone with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, stressing the urgency of uniting international efforts to halt the conflict and warning of the consequences of Tel Aviv’s aggression for regional security and stability.

In turn, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and European Commission Vice-President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas discussed measures to reduce the growing tension in the region.

During a telephone conversation, both officials stressed the urgent need to halt the escalation and resume diplomatic negotiations to reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

Safadi warned of the serious impacts of the current regional escalation and clarified that efforts to ease tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv should not divert international attention from the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and urged for the immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, and to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid through relevant UN agencies.
