According to official reports, as of Tuesday afternoon, 48,900 residents were temporarily evacuated in Rongjiang County and 32,000 in Congjiang County; no casualties have been reported so far.
Authorities in these territories raised the emergency response for flood control to Level I, the highest classification.
Rongjiang, a county known for its rural football league—which includes more than 100 teams and attracts numerous fans from across the country—has been hit by severe storms since Monday night, and an area on the Duliu River exceeded the flood alert level by 6.68 meters on Tuesday afternoon.
Also in Guizhou province, rain-triggered landslides caused a highway bridge to partially collapse in Sandu County.
Rescue teams, including firefighters and volunteers, deployed boats and other equipment for rescue efforts in the two counties.
The provincial emergency department distributed relief supplies, including 30,000 bottles of drinking water and 10,000 servings of instant noodles, to the two counties via high-speed rail and road transport.
