The UN chief noted that the treaty signed in Washington on June 27 must be fully complied with by the parties and under Security Council Resolution 2773, including the ceasefire and all other agreed measures, Radio Okapi station informed.
Guterres said, “This agreement is an important step toward de-escalation, peace, and stability in eastern DRC and the Great Lakes region. I congratulate the United States for its leadership in facilitating this process, in partnership with the State of Qatar and the African Union mediator.”
The UN secretary-general also praised, in his statement, the contributions of the five co-facilitators appointed by the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the UN, through the Stabilization Mission in the DRC, to supporting the implementation of the agreement, in close coordination with the African Union and its regional and international partners.
