The cost of food in Argentina continues to rise

Buenos Aires, Ago 18 (Prensa Latina) Just for food an average Argentine family of four needs today at least 790 000 pesos (598 dollars) when the average income is around the 1.215 000 pesos (920 dollars) and the minimum 317 000 pesos (240 dollars).

The cost of food skyrocketed in July, and higher increases are expected in August, representing more than half of the total Basic Basket accepted by the government, an indicator that marks the poverty line, according to an analysis released today by the newspaper Campo Financiero.

In response to this rise in the cost of living, eight out of 10 Argentines changed their consumption habits and began adding or removing food from their table.

This expenditure varies from province to province. In terms of monthly variation, the largest increases were recorded in Jujuy (+3.9 percent), Catamarca (+2.5) and Corrientes (+2.5).

In absolute values, Catamarca leads with a rise of 34 00 pesos, followed by Corrientes (29 927), Jujuy (28 213) and La Rioja (23 139), details the information.

Among the most expensive food appear bread, which led to increases in almost all provinces with rises of more than five percent.

Sugar also showed generalized rises of three and five percent, with peaks of 7.6 in San Juan and Misiones, among other products.
