Bolivia extends election calendar for runoff

La Paz, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) According to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), a deadline of September 4 for any of the presidential candidates to decline participation in Bolivia's first runoff election is included in the electoral calendar.

The modifications to the calendar for the 2025 election of authorities and representatives of the Plurinational State were approved by the TSE Plenary Chamber through Resolution TSE-RSP-ADM 0386/2025.

Unlike the first calendar, the runoff will have 13 activities, not 12, as the deadline for any political organization (Christian Democratic Party or Liberty and Democracy) to notify its declination to participate in the runoff was added, which expires next Thursday.

If a declination occurs, “the candidates of the other ticket will be proclaimed for the Presidency and Vice Presidency of the State,” states section c) of Article 53 of Law 026 of the Electoral Regime.

Because neither ticket obtained more than 50 percent of the vote, or 40 out of 100, with a 10 percent difference over the second-place candidate, Bolivia will go to its first runoff election in its history.

The dissemination or publication of electoral opinion studies (polls) will be allowed from this Thursday until October 12, and the drawing for the placement of the voting bands and the approval of the ballot design by the TSE will take place on September 3.

Meanwhile, the public drawing for the selection of polling station jurors by the departmental electoral courts and the TSE for polling stations abroad will be held on September 19, and notification will be made between September 20 and October 19.

Likewise, the list of polling station jurors will be published in print media and on the Plurinational Electoral Body’s website on September 21, both for Bolivia and in 22 countries around the world.
